Dillard University's men's and women's cross country teams will begin their trek for the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) cross country championships on Saturday, September 8, as they participate in the 2012 Loyola Wolf Pack Invitational at Lafreniere Park in Metairie.

The Lady Bleu Devils begin their 5K race at 7:50 a.m., and the Bleu Devils begin their 5K run at 8:25 a.m.  Both of Dillard's cross country teams are coached by Bobby Williams Jr., who is entering his fourth year as head coach.

"For this cross country meet, I'm basically looking to see where my teams are, regarding conditioning and mental toughness," said Coach Williams.  "Throughout the season for our men, we are definitely shooting for one of the top two spots as a team, with a few all-conference finishers.  For our ladies, we should have at least three all-conference runners."

The Dillard athletics staff is hosting a "poster party" in the Kearny Lounge on Friday, September 6, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to come support the men's and women's cross country teams as they prepare for their first meet of the season.  Posters and markers will be provided for fans to write and draw on as inspiration for the runners.  Students are asked to come mingle with the student-athletes, and also by give an encouraging word or two to show support towards their fellow classmates.

Dillard University's cross country teams will also participate in the Louisiana State University Invitational on Saturday, September 22, in Baton Rouge, and they will also participate in the UNCF Walk/Run on Saturday, October 13, in New Orleans.  Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) cross country championships will be held on Saturday, October 20, in Clinton, Mississippi.
