Head Coach Sam Weaver and the Philander Smith men's basketball staff have completed their 2012-13 signing class. Last season, under new management, the Panther basketball team received a much-needed face lift. With only eight athletes, the team surpassed expectations and generated a newfound excitement for PSC athletics and its supporters.

The eight young men, who comprised the 2011-12 men's basketball team, represented the college well as they left everything on the court. Strong willed and determined, they took on each competition as if it were a new and exciting challenge. As a result, they ended the season with a 16-15 record.

There are some familiar faces returning this year as six of the eight players from last season will return: Marlin Dotson, senior guard from Jackson, TN; Josh Dumas, sophomore forward from Houston, TX; Alex Howell, sophomore guard from Batts Chapel, AR; Maurice Washington, sophomore guard from Atlanta, GA; DaMarkus Lipscomb, senior point guard from North Little Rock, AR; and Jaron Egbe, junior forward from Columbia, MO. Lipscomb and Egbe are the only two starters remaining from last year's team.

The 2012-13 season is sure to bring even more excitement to Mims Gymnasium. When asked about his new team, Head Coach/AD Sam Weaver proclaimed, "This year we have a well-balanced team full of experienced newcomers and one freshman. If they play the way that we know they are capable of, great things will surely happen."

This team is full of multi-faceted players who will definitely add to the overall success of the team. Jermaine Hollimon, a junior guard from Memphis, Tennessee, is expected to improve the offensive and defensive presence of PSC. While, Juvon Demerson, a junior center from Midland, Texas, will provide a distinct presence in the paint.

The upcoming season is sure to be an exciting one! Please come out and support the Panthers and Lady Panthers as they fight for victory.
