Itta Bena, MS-The Tougaloo College Volleyball Team traveled to Itta Bena, MS to take on Division I SWAC Mississippi Valley State University.  The Lady Bulldogs would give Devilettes a shock with a 3-1 (30-28, 25-22, 28-26, 25-22) victory to improve to 5-3 on the season and get first ever win over a Division I team.

After winning home opener Saturday in a "dawg fight" against Victory University, the Lady Bulldogs were looking to continue that momentum in a tough match against the Devilettes of MVSU.  The Devilettes were searching for their first win of the season and a home opener win.  In set one, the Devilettes would go up 6-1 in an early advantage over the Lady Bulldogs.  After getting a timeout to regroup, the Lady Bulldogs would pull together to fight back and give the Devilettes a fight, pulling through to take set one in a long 30-28 win.

In set two, the Devilettes would make the comeback from a 19-16 deficit to take the set 25-22 and tie the match at 1-1.  In set three, the Lady Bulldogs would go back and forward with the Devilettes, trying to run away but the Devilettes would not lay down easy.  With the score at 27-26, with the Lady Bulldogs at set point, Kaitlynn Wright would serve a short ball to get the service ace and the win for the Lady Bulldogs to go up 2-1 on the Devilettes.

In the last set, it would be all Lady Bulldogs, as they would take control of the game and lead by as many as 6 points.  The Devilettes would try to regroup and fight back, but the Lady Bulldogs would prove to be too much for the winless Devilettes as they would take the set 25-22 to hold off the Devilettes and get the win.  The win would give the Lady Bulldogs a two-game winning streak.  Last season, the Devilettes defeated the Lady Bulldogs easily with a 3-0 win both at Valley and at Tougaloo.

The Lady Bulldogs were paced by Dayane Souza with 17 kills, 3 services aces, and 22 digs.  Marcella Oliveira chipped in 9 kills, 22 digs, and 2 blocks.  Briana Murphy tacked in 6 kills and a career high 14 solo blocks and 4 block assists.  Jana Williams added 3 kills and 21 digs and Mariana Candelot had 30 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.  The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend as they are set to travel to Holly Springs, MS to play in Rust College Tournament.
