Holly Springs, MS-The Tougaloo College Volleyball team made their way up to Holly Springs, MS for the 2-day Bearcat National Classic hosted by Rust College.  The Lady Bulldogs goes 2 for 3 in the tournament, losing to GCAC foe Southern University-New Orleans in a non-conference match and getting a win over host school Rust College and a forfeit win over Stillman College.

On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs were set to take on GCAC foe Southern University-New Orleans in non-conference action.  The Lady Bulldogs were looking to defeat the Lady Knights for the first time in school history.  The Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Knights would go toe to toe in the first set, but it would be the Lady Bulldogs that would take the set 25-23.  In the next set, the Lady Bulldogs would take a commanding lead, but the Lady Knights would fight back to tie the game, and eventually take the lead from the Lady Bulldogs.  The Lady Bulldogs would not give up, but with a crucial service error, the Lady Knights would take a 24-23 edge over the Lady Bulldogs.  The Lady Bulldogs would try to deny the Lady Knight game point, but the Lady Knights would find the open spot and take set 2 25-23.  The Lady Bulldogs would take an early lead in sets 3 and 4 as well, but the Lady Knights would prove to be too much for the Lady Bulldogs taking set 3 25-17 and set 4 25-22 to take a 3-1 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Briana Murphy and Marcella Oliveira with 7 kills apiece.  Oliveira also had 26 digs and 3 blocks and Murphy had 3 solo blocks and 13 block assists.  Dayane Souza chipped in 5 kills, 15 assists, 28 digs, and 11 block assists.

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs would take on host Rust College.  The Lady Bulldogs were looking to get back on the winning track, and they would do just that, defeating the host Lady Bearcats 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-15).  In the first set, the Lady Bearcats would give the Lady Bulldogs a fight, not backing down.  The Lady Bulldogs would control the game, but the Lady Bearcats would not give up.  After a tough 25-22 set, the next two sets would be all Tougaloo, taking command of the game and outlasting the Lady Bearcats in straight sets to win the game and improve to 6-4 on the season.

Marcella Oliveira led the Lady Bulldogs with 7 kills and 12 digs.  Briana Murphy tacked in 5 kills, 2 solo blocks, and 16 block assists and Dayane Souza chipped in 4 kills and 11 digs.

In what was supposed to be the Lady Bulldogs final match of the tournament against Stillman College, the Lady Tigers did not show up, forfeiting the game and giving the Lady Bulldogs another win to add to their record, making it 7-4 on the season.  The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday, September 18th as they host cross town rival Belhaven University.  Match is set to begin at 7:00 P.M.
