Hattiesburg, MS-The Tougaloo College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams traveled to Hattiesburg this past Saturday to participate in the Screamin' Eagles Festival hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi. Although the men's team did not score and the women finished 5th out of 6 teams, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs finished strong in meet.
The Lady Bulldogs placed 5th out of 6 teams with a time of 2:14:22. With a total of 32 runners finishing the race, Brianna Blunt paced the Lady Bulldogs, finishing at 16 with a time of 22:25.34. Blunt, a 2011 GCAC All-Conference selection, is getting better and better with each meet and she is prepared to finish strong for the conference meet this season. Other members of the team include Daniela Thomas, who finished 22nd with a time of 25:19.32; Whitney Warnsley, who finished 25th with a time of 27:18.46; Toynel Brown, who finished 27th with a time of 29:37.35; Erin Wells, who finished 28th with a time of 29:41.28; and Keisha Mackall, who finished 32nd with a time of 34:06.83.
The Bulldogs did not score because all of their runners could not finish the race, but they still look impressive in the meet. Paced by Brian Ambrose, who finished 18th out of 25 runners scored with a time of 20:28.62. Nicolos Jones finished 21st with a time of 20:43.63 and Lawrence McClendon finished 24th with a time of 21:02.96. The other two runners were too injured to finish the race, but they are hoping to have a full squad during the next meet.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs next scheduled meet is set for Saturday, September 29th, as they travel to Itta Bena, MS to participate in a meet hosted by Mississippi Valley State University. The meet is scheduled for 9:00 A.M.
