Talladega, AL. Talladega College Volleyball has played 3 consecutive 5 set matches and won each in dramatic fashion. Last night TC defeated Dillard University 3-2 for their 10th straight win. It wasn't easy though. Dillard proved a very formidable opponent as they won sets 2 and 4 while TC won sets 1, 3 and 5.
The first set was a see saw affair with neither team taking more than a 3 point lead. When the dust settled the Lady Tornadoes squeaked out a 27-25 victory as Zia Mose and KeShawna Ximines led the charge with 4 kills each. Sarina Thompson added 3 in the set.
Set two would prove a different subject. Getting behind early, TC struggled back to get within 2 points, but The Bleu Devils pulled away and took the set 25-17. Errors plagued TC as they could not find open court and sailed attacks wide and long.
After the intermission, The Tornadoes came back and started a repeat of set one. With the game going back and forth, TC finally broke thru and gained a 3 point lead and kept the lead to the end. Again, Thompson was key as she sparked the set win with 5 kills in the set. Mose added 4, and Ximines added 3 kills for the win.
Set four was close early as TC started with a 3-0 run only to see Dillard come back and take the lead at 10 -5. TC would again make it close, but the Bleu Devils would take the set 25-18.
The deciding set started like the 4th with TC building a 4-1 lead and the teams changed sides at 8-4. TC would never relinquish the lead as they built a 6 point advantage, but Dillard fought back to come within one point at 12-11. The Tornadoes took the next two points with big kills from Mose and Thompson and Dillard stopped the run with their own big kill. TC ended the match with a scrambling play to send the ball over the net just out of the defenders reach.
Mose led the offense with 17 kills. Thompson added 11kills while Ximines brought home 8. Gabby Powell dished out 39 assists and had her 5th double-double with14 digs. The win marks the 10th consecutive for the Lady Tornadoes as the increase their record to 11-6 and 3-0 in The GCAC.
