Volleyball - Tue, Oct. 2, 2012

Tougaloo, MS-The Tougaloo College Volleyball team hosted Mississippi College and Rust College in a tri-match tonight here at the Dawg Pound.  The Lady Bulldogs upset the Lady Choctaws of Mississippi College 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18) and defeated the Lady Bearcats of Rust College 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-20) to advance to 13-6 on the season.

After picking up two conference victories on last week against Edward Waters College and Dillard University, the Lady Bulldogs were looking to pick up two non-conference wins tonight.  In the first match of the day against the Lady Choctaws, the Lady Bulldogs had to fight from behind to take the advantage over the Lady Choctaws and take set one 25-22.  In set two, the Lady Bulldogs would make it look a little easier as they would take a 2-0 edge over the Lady Choctaws with a 25-19 set win.  In set three, however, the Lady Choctaws would turn the game around, as they were not ready to give the match to the Lady Bulldogs, winning set three 25-21.  In the final set, the Lady Bulldogs would go ahead and put away the Lady Choctaws 25-18 to steal the win.

Pacing the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Dayane Souza with 21 kills and 25 digs.  Marcella Oliveira tacked in 10 kills and 23 digs, Briana Murphy chipped in 6 kills and 5 blocks, Jana Williams added 5 kills and 21 digs, and Mariana Candelot had 3 kills and 39 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.

After losing to the Lady Choctaws in the second match of the day, the Lady Bearcats were looking to end the night with a win over the Lady Bulldogs, but the Lady Bulldogs had other plans for the Lady Bearcats.  The Lady Bulldogs would not waste any time with the Lady Bearcats, taking the early lead in set one and the Lady Bulldogs would not look back as they would cruise past the Lady Bearcats in straight sets to claim its 13th victory of the season.

Dayane Souza led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 kills and 19 digs.  Marcella Oliveira tacked in 7 kills and 17 digs, Briana Murphy chipped in 5 kills, Jana Williams added 4 kills, 9 assists, and 12 digs, and Mariana Candelot had 21 assists.  The lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday as the travel to Talladega, AL to take on Talladega College in a conference match-up.  Game time is set for 7:00 P.M.
