The Lady Bleu Devils of Dillard University were ranked fifth in the 2012-2013 women's basketball preseason poll selected by the coaches.  Xavier University was ranked number one, with Talladega, Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) and Tougaloo rounding out the top half. 

Those ranked below the Lady Bleu Devils were Edward Waters College, Philander Smith College and Fisk University.

The top returners for the Lady Bleu Devils include Jazzmin Smith, Brittany Smith and Kierrariel Mitchell.  J. Smith is a 5'11" senior post player who earned All-American Honorable Mention honors last year as well as GCAC 1st Team All-Conference honors.  B. Smith is a 5'7" sophomore guard who returns as a starter, and Mitchell is a 5'11" sophomore forward who also returns as a starter.

The Lady Bleu Devils will truly miss Ariel "Mighty" Mitchell who recently signed with the Harlem Globetrotters.  Mighty is a 5'6" guard who made GCAC 1st Team All-Conference the last three years.  However, Dillard got some key acquisitions over the offseason which will surely help fill the void that Mitchell left for the Lady Bleu Devils.

Top newcomers include Shea Collins, Alena Evans, and Carolyn Baker.  Collins is a 5'7" junior guard who transferred from IUPUI.  Collins was ranked among ESPN.com's top-100 point guards as a senior.  Evans is a 5'10" freshman guard from Liberty High School (Las Vegas, Nv.) where she made 2nd team All-State and also 1st team All-Southeast Division.  Baker is a 6'2" junior forward who transferred from Wyoming University, and currently plays on the Lady Bleu Devils volleyball team.
