Volleyball - Sat, Oct. 6, 2012

Tougaloo, MS-The Tougaloo College Volleyball team played host to the Lady Bulldogs of Fisk University in a conference match-up today in Dawg Pound.  The Lady Bulldogs eased past Fisk in straight sets (25-17, 25-8, 28-26) to win its sixth consecutive match and advance to 6-0 in conference action.

After defeating Fisk 3-1 earlier in the season in part I of the "Battle of the Lady Bulldogs", Tougaloo was hoping to complete a season sweep in today's match-up.  In set one, the Lady Bulldogs and Fisk would battle early in the game, trading points.  But midway through the set, the Lady Bulldogs would take off from Fisk and snatch the set victory 25-17.  In set two, the Lady Bulldogs would waste no time with Fisk, as they take an 11-2 lead over Fisk.  The Lady Bulldogs would continue to run away from Fisk, as they would ease to a 25-8 set win to go up 2-0.

In set three, the Lady Bulldogs would try to put Fisk away, but Fisk would continue to rally back to even the score.  With the score tied at 24, the Lady Bulldogs would attempt to put Fisk away, but Fisk continued to fight.  Now the score is 27-26 with the Lady Bulldogs having the match point, and it would be Mariana Candelot who would sneak in the kill for the Lady Bulldogs to get the 28-26 set win and the match victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 12 kills and 8 digs was Marcella OliveiraDayane Souza followed with 11 kills and 22 digs, Briana Murphy chipped in 6 kills, and Candelot finished with 5 kills, 22 assists, and 5 service aces.  The win puts the Lady Bulldogs at 15-6 overall, 6-0 in conference action, the best in school's history.  The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday, October 9th, as they travel to New Orleans, LA to take on former GCAC foe Loyola University.  Game time is set for 7:00 P.M.
