Once again it was outside hitter Carolyn Baker who led the Lady Bleu Devils (3-6 overall, 2-5 GCAC) with 17 kills and two serving aces. Baker leads the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) with 4.8 kills per game. Outside hitter Megan Laday chipped in with five kills for Dillard, and defensive specialist Destinee Higgans led the team with seven digs and also had two servicing aces.
In the final set, Dillard trailed Xavier (12-4 overall, 6-0 GCAC) by the score of 22-17 and then went on a 5-1 run to bring the score to 23-22. Baker dominated the set once again with five kills but Xavier scored two straight points, one of those coming off of a service error from Dillard. The Lady Bleu Devils hit .232 as a team.
"I felt like we fought hard but it just wasn't enough," said Baker. "Nine times out of ten when we play together is when we are most efficient. As long as we stick together we will be fine; I have faith in my team."
The Lady Bleu Devils looks to bounce back on Wednesday as they host the University of Mobile. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
