April Perry led SUNO with 24 points in a losing effort
Women's Basketball - Fri, Nov. 16, 2012
NEW ORLEANS, LA - The SUNO Lady Knights expected the Westminster Griffins to be a great early season test, but they weren't expecting to lose on their own home court.  However, the visitors were able to fend off a furious rally by SUNO late in the second half to escape The Castle with a 57-56 victory. The Lady Knights jumped out to an early 5 point lead as they were able to turn Westminster turnovers into points.  As the half continued though, the Griffins were able to adjust and scored several baskets in the painted area to take a 6 point lead at the half.  In the second half, Westminster was able to extend their lead to 11 points and was up 9 with 3 minutes to play.  The Lady Knights were finally able to string a few baskets together and cut the lead to one, but couldn't get any closer.

SUNO's struggled to find its offense all game long, shooting just 35 percent from the field including 1-10 .  April Perry led the team with 24 points on 8-19 shooting and Rose Boatner added 11 points and 7 rebounds.  Janee Morton and Sheanice Rhoden combined for just 11 points on 4-15 shooting.  Cydney Tibbits led Westminster with 20 points and Tia Pappas pulled down 15 rebounds for the Griffins.

"I'm proud of the ladies because they competed up until the very end", said Head Coach Elston King,"but we really didn't play our best tonight.  We forced turnovers, but couldn't turn them into points, they beat us on the glass and we let them dominate us down low.  I don't think we ever really got any kind of rhythm offensively.  We were right there with a chance to win though, so that shows the kind of tenacity that this team has.  We're just going to have to get better and I think we will."
