DECATUR, Ala. -- The University of Mobile (49-11) defeated Savannah College of Art and Design  9-1 in the team's final pool play game at the 2005 NAIA national softball tournament Saturday evening at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Alabama.
 
Needing a win in their final pool play game to advance in the tournament, the Rams improved to 3-1 in pool play action and will finish in second place behnind Simon Fraser (4-0) in Pool D.  The top teams from each of the four pools advance to Monday's double-elimination quarterfinal round.
 
Meredith Tanner led the Rams by going 2-for-3 from the plate with three RBIs and a home run.  Angelcia Yrigoyen also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
 
Mobile jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning but Savannah answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third, cutting the lead to 3-1.  However, from there, starting pitcher Linden Jones (21-5) would settle down and not allow another run as she picked up her third win of the tournament.
 
Jones went all seven innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out eight.
 
Mobile would blow the game open in the fifth by scoring four more runs and added a pair of runs in the seventh inning to close out the scoring.
 
The Rams will play again on Monday, however, the time and opponent will not be known until all pool play games are complete.
